How To Read The Diagrams On This Site:
Each dotted line represents a string. The top line is the high "E", or thinnest string, which is at the bottom of the fingerboard. The second line down represents the second, or "B" string, which is the second string from the bottom of the fingerboard as you are holding the guitar. T bottom line in the diagrams represents the low "E", or thickest string, which is at the top of the fingerboard as you are holding the guitar. The numbers on the dotted line tell you which fret to hold down the string on. If there is an "O", that means to play the string "open", or not fretted. If there is an "X", that means the string should be muted with finger pressure or otherwise ignored and not played.
In the example below, you would hold down the sixth string at the third fret, the fifth string at the second fret, and the first string at the third fret, and play the second, third, and fourth strings open without holding them down at any fret:
